Information from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Staller https://ericstaller.com/about Why I have chosen them I have chosen to study Eric Staller for my light painting project because I believe the art work he creates is very eye catching. This is because he uses a variety of different patterns and designs. The pattern which I like the most from him is his circular work such as the light around someones head. I think this is because majority of his artwork is just that one pattern. Another reason why I chose to study his artwork is because a lot of it is created outdoors which makes it feel more natural rather then it being created indoors with a background. My favourite piece from him is VW covered in lights, In my opinion it is a very creative thing to do and something I wouldn’t have thought about.

I did this edit to make my standard image of light into a more eye catching design, doing this style showed me more of how to use photopea which means I can use it more freely. I could improve by making it more advanced and trying somethingmore challenging to really challenge me.

June 2023 Mock Exam
Context This photo was created by Pablo Picasso and it is a centaur which he drew in the air with just light. It was made in 1949, the work was made for people who are into painting with light photography. Pablo was born on 25th October, 1881, in Malaga, Spain. He died on 8th April 1973 in Mougins, France of lung congestion . He had 4 kids, his artwork was influenced by Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Cezanne. His success started in the 1900s from 1900 too 1907. Both of these periods which he worked throughout were called the Blue and Rose periods.
Content It is a piece of photography work from Pablo Picasso which has been created by only using lights and a camera for the main effects. The way he has created these effects and figures is by simply just waving the lights in front of the camera. It is been shot in a dark room which looks almost like a prison cell or even a cave because of the artefacts shown in the background. The image is a portrait and could represent how the man lives his life in his worry free cave. None of the image is distorted but the shadows in the top of the room create a dark environment and makes it seem as if the only light in the room is coming from the left side of the image. Also the light coming from the sides makes the crouched man seem like the main focal point as the lights direction is facing towards him which also gives him a glowing effect.
Composition The rules used in this photograph are rule of thirds, this is when the subject or focal point of the image is specifically placed on the left or right side of the image to keep it in a good distance from the viewers eyes. And this is good for making sure the main subject is the first thing present in the viewers eyes, the crouching man on the floor is strategically placed on these lines. Also leading lines have been used to further draw the viewers attention into specific parts of the image in a planned manner. This makes my eyes go from the main subject which is the man to the pots on the back wall then I focus in on the light drawing. I also believe there is repetition used with the plates on the back wall, repetition is as basic and easy to understand as it sounds and is when something repeats itself in an image twice or more. In my opinion I don't think the shot was framed I think someone kneeled down and held the camera for this shot.
Connection I am particularly fond of the use of the light in the image, Pablo could of used the light in any way and could of easily used way to much or way to little or even used it where it isn't needed. But the way he has used it to create the shadow beneath him and all around the room from the pots sitting on the floor to the pillars having a shadow in between them is perfect. There is nothing I dislike about this image and I think it is fine just the way it is. Also the way he has managed to get the shadow to cover the crouched mans stomach but not his head shows the photographer is highly skilled with camera and has no room for error within his artwork. His work is a different style to mine but I can take inspiration from it to take my photography to the next level. We do have a few similarities such as he has taken a shot with light painting in the background also with a subject but I have used more brighter colors such as greens, blues, and oranges whereas he has only chosen to use white in his work. For his light painting to be using only one colour and it being white he has shown a professional level of artwork and has also had a lot of bright light coming in through the window. I could start to incorporate natural light into the artwork to create the shadow effect Pablo also has created. This would only be possible with hours of practice creating light painting photography in a dark room to then master the camera settings and then be able to take it outside using natural light in my work as well.

Evaluation
I explored light photography a piece of artwork which was created by Pablo Picasso, my first thoughts were that I could do this task easily but would struggle on the editing part. And this was true, my edits were not as good as my written work. I discovered Pablo when I first started the mock but I have heard about him and his artwork in the past. I learnt a lot from studying his work such as the use of shadows in a light painting because these have an effect on how someone views the room.
